Dunnhumby deploys WANdisco Fusion to ensure business continuity and real-time performance for its Big Data applications

WANdisco software used to slash costs and eliminate outages across data centers

WANdisco (LSE: WAND), the leading provider of continuous-availability software for global enterprises to meet the challenges of big data, announced today that dunnhumby, the world’s leading customer science company, has moved into full production with WANdisco Fusion ensuring continuous availability and maximized performance of big data analytics systems.

dunnhumby provides analytic, consulting and media services to a host of retailers and consumer brands. The firm analyzes data from almost 1 billion retail customers worldwide to uncover valuable insights into customer intent and behavior: what customers want, where they want it and how much they are willing to pay for it.

After an extensive review of its IT infrastructure, and a thorough evaluation of the solutions available for enterprise-class Hadoop availability and performance, dunnhumby made the decision to implement WANdisco Fusion. dunnhumby initially invested in Hadoop to reduce the costs of its data warehouse, but is now migrating more applications across in order to attain a greater understanding of the data it analyzes. One new application now running on Hadoop is capable of providing a much richer analysis of future spending habits, enabling dunnhumby to offer more accurate and timely advice on the offers it recommends to its corporate customers.

In addition to WANdisco Fusion’s continuous availability and performance, its flexible architecture eliminates vendor lock-in and supports staggered upgrades of Hadoop across locations without any interruption in operation. WANdisco Fusion can be implemented across different versions of the same platform, as well as mixed storage environments, including Oracle BDA, Cloudera, Hortonworks (NASDAQ: HDP) and MapR.

“This represents an important development for dunnhumby and will help us address several major challenges that have developed in the business as it scaled,” said Andy Williams, dunnhumby Global Head of Infrastructure. “In an industry like ours, the role of IT in helping to drive the growth of the company is absolutely key, and this growth has in turn had a significant impact on our customer science architecture. Over the last decade we have witnessed significant growth in our IT architecture. Ensuring that this architecture is operating at maximum performance and is continuously available is critical to the success of our organization.”

Continued Williams, “I’ve not seen anything quite like WANdisco Fusion. You expect challenges with any new technology, but WANdisco offers us total peace of mind that the business will be able to keep servicing our clients at the same standard as we scale.”

”Data analytics is transforming the world’s most successful businesses, but the transition from potential to impact is based on enterprise-enabled products being able to combine efficiency and quality,” said David Richards, CEO and Co-founder of WANdisco. “Customers see our technology as critical for enterprise big data deployments and as a necessary requirement in mixed storage environments. dunnhumby found that WANdisco Fusion was the only solution capable of meeting their requirements for continuous access with real-time performance across any number of servers and locations.”

The WANdisco Fusion Platform is available now. Visit to learn more and download a free 14-day evaluation.

On Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. PT, WANdisco and Hortonworks will host a free webinar entitled, “Meeting and Exceeding Enterprise Application SLAs with Hadoop.” Registration is free at
